SS: Police launch preliminary investigation into posts targeting local editor-in-chief

·

Eastern Finland Police are launching a preliminary investigation into social media posts targeting the editor-in-chief of a local newspaper, Savon Sanomat reports. Ari Reijonen, the husband of MP Minna Reijonen (Finns Party), is suspected of defamation.

In Facebook comments, Reijonen referred to the editor-in-chief as a “serial drowner” and a “merry widow”. The editor-in-chief’s spouse and child died in an accident more than ten years ago when a tractor fell through the ice.

The comments were connected to an article published by Savon Sanomat about Minna Reijonen’s term as an MP. The article was also published in the local newspaper where the targeted editor-in-chief works.

Ari Reijonen later deleted the comments and apologised for them. Minna Reijonen also apologised for her husband’s comments.
