This summer, residents in Kuopio can once again earn money by removing the harmful invasive plant Himalayan balsam with the help of the Crowdsorsa mobile game. The campaign, which begins on Monday, 22 June, offers a total of €4,000 in rewards. The city is taking part in the nature conservation effort for the fourth time.
Participants can join by downloading the app to their smartphone. Players find a stand of Himalayan balsam, film the area before and after weeding, and submit the videos for review. Approved work is rewarded with a cash payment.
According to the city’s press release, the game area is largely the same as last year. The Hiltulanlahti detailed plan areas are included as a new site. The most important stands for protecting biodiversity, located in the Neulamäki area, have been marked on the game map as bonus areas. Players receive a higher reward for removing plants from these areas. The game runs until the end of August, or for as long as the reward budget lasts.
